WLIJ has been on the air serving over 30 counties in middle Tennessee and northern Alabama since 1959. It came on the air with a country music format consisting of old, new and folk-bluegrass music with an occasional classic rock-and-roll song. Sunday mornings are all gospel. Today, we play Today’s Country hits and Yesterday’s Classic Rock. A format that reaches many different music tastes and covers many years of music.
In addition to a great music line-up, WLIJ carries many local programs and events. You will hear monthly 30-minute programs by the Bedford County government, Heritage Medical Center, Shelbyville City government, Shelbyville Police Department, Shelbyville Parks and Recreation Department, Better Business Bureau, Shelbyville Public Works Department, Bedford County Emergency Management Agency, Bedford County Sheriff’s Department. There are four 15-minute Swap-N-Shop programs a day during the week and two on Saturdays. Obituaries are announced four times a day Monday through Friday and twice on Saturday and Sunday. There are daily giveaways as well as seasonal specials. WLIJ is the official home for Shelbyville Central High School Golden Eagle football and Golden Eagle and Eaglette basketball. Other programs of local interest are aired as events happen throughout the community.
WLIJ broadcasts several musical programs including the J. Gregory Jamboree live from the Bell Buckle Café and The Old Time Country Radio Show with Paul Jones live from Lynchburg, Tennessee.
In addition to a top-of-the-hour national news broadcast, the bottom of each hour features a current local weather forecast and a calendar of community events. We carry political events such as Meet the Candidates and Election Returns. All programming is subject to interruption by the National Weather Service for severe weather alerts or any local or national happening of immediate importance.
